Graham's Aged Tawnies

Pedro Pereira @ 2010-06-09 17h00

Graham’s Aged Tawny Ports are made from wines of the very highest quality which, following careful selection are blended and subsequently matured in seasoned casks for a number of years until their peak of maturity is attained. These are among the most demanding and challenging styles of Port to produce, requiring great skill and years of experience from the winemaker. It is essential to strike the correct balance between the delicacy and elegance which results from prolonged cask-ageing and the rich fruit quality which lends these old tawnies their structure, freshness and longevity. Graham’s aged tawnies show a characteristic ‘nutty’ quality and delicious mature honeyed fruit, exquisitely mellowed by ageing in seasoned oak casks. In warmer weather, try serving Graham’s Aged Tawnies lightly chilled – this adds a new dimension of pleasure to these superb wines. Graham’s Aged Tawny Ports have been awarded an impressive total of 7 gold medals at the International Wine Challenge (more than any other Port category), among them a ‘Tawny Port Trophy’ for the Graham’s 30 Years of Age.

Graham’s 10 Years of Age: deep amber colour, complex orange peel and marzipan aromas. Flavourful rich fruitcake spiciness with hints of walnuts, beautifully mellowed with an elegant, long finish.

Graham’s 20 Years of Age: pale amber colour, great complexity on the nose with hints of mandarin oranges, walnuts and roast almonds. Superb palate of rich, honeyed fruit and soft burnt toffee, smooth-textured with an enticing long, lingering finish.

Graham’s 30 Years of Age: light, orange-tinted golden brown colour, magnificent perfumed nose with great class showing an array of dried fruits. Outstanding, mature concentrated palate with full honeyed fruit, gorgeously mellowed. Simply delicious with an aftertaste that lasts and lasts.

Graham’s 40 Years of Age: golden amber with a pale green tinge at the rim, which denotes great quality and class. Very complex on the nose with a powerful fragrance and opulence that belies its age. The palate is a gamut of flavours, ranging from delicate apricot fruit and raisins to creamy toffee and praline. The full, persistent aftertaste is sheer pleasure. A very rare wine available in restricted quantity.
